Professional Development Opportunities and Funding

Hudson Valley Community College offers employees a variety of ways to increase professional development and incentives for furthering your education. Some of these are negotiated in your employee contract and guidelines can be found in all employee contracts. Listed below are the opportunities that are available to employees.

Hudson Valley Community College Tuition Waivers
As an employee benefit, the college offers two types of tuition waivers to take classes at Hudson Valley Community College—one for employees and one for the dependents of employees. Both are administered through the Office of Human Resources.

  • Tuition Waivers for Employees
    Eligible employees may request a tuition waiver for credit bearing courses and some non-credit courses. Consult your employee contract for specific guidelines or contact Human Resources. Tuition Waiver Procedures
  • Tuition Waivers for Dependents of Employees
    Effective for the FY 2022-2023 academic year, all college and Capital District Educational Opportunity Center employees — full-time, part-time or grant-funded — are eligible to receive a tuition waiver for their eligible dependents for up to 12 credits per semester for courses taken at Hudson Valley Community College. Personnel Resources Committee of the Academic Senate
Hudson Valley Community College allocates funds to the Academic Senate’s Personnel Resources Committee each year to support faculty and staff professional development requests. SUNY Tuition Waiver, funded by SUNY
SUNY sponsors a $4,383 tuition waiver fund that grants employees 50% of tuition only, up to six credit hours per semester, at any SUNY four-year Institution. Funds are allocated on a first come-first served basis. Fees are not reimbursable. Email reimbursement@7670f.com for more information.

President's Innovation Fund
Grants are offered each year by the president to fund innovative projects that explore teaching and learning processes and assessment thereof. The president seeks novel approaches and creative activities at Hudson Valley Community College to enrich the college's teaching and learning environment and/or the assessment of student outcomes. DC Workshop Day
The College budgets each year to support professional development opportunities for DC Workshop Day for department chairpersons.

Faculty Workshop Day
The College budgets each year to support professional development opportunities for Faculty Workshop Day, which is held annually during the spring semester on a day when classes are cancelled. Please consult the Academic Calendar for the date.

Staff Development Day
The College budgets each year to support professional development opportunities for Staff Development Day for non-faculty employees. Each year’s date will be announced in the Campus Chronicle.

Training
The College is required by a variety of statutes at the state and federal level to provide training to its employees. Where such training is mandated, the college will comply with the law. This may require an employee to attend training sessions and sign certification forms. Failure to comply with such mandates may result in disciplinary action.
